BioHi! You've stumbled upon polish_pirate's livejournal, but you may just call me "Doxie".
Why Polish Pirate? There weren't any!: Actually, that's where you're totally wrong. Baron Maurice de Benyowski was a Polish pirate (though Wiki says he was Hungarian-bah!) who became the self-proclaimed "King of Madagascar". Whatever, look it up. Anyway, I love pirates and I'm Polish. Enough said.
About Me: Basically, I'm a gigantic geek. I've stumbled my way to LJ as a way to connect to other geeks. I love my friends, but they really don't understand my pre-disposition for any and all things "geek". I'm a Comm Major scheduled to graduate from college in a year (7th year senior, woo woo!) and then I'll actually have to delve into the "Real World". I'm generally friendly and nice, but if I come across someone who practices the "isms" (racism, classism, sexism), misogyny or homophobia, the gloves come off. I'm not necessarily PC, but if you're genuinely disrespectful or hateful towards others I have nothing to say to you (I do, but you won't like it!). I'm open to other outlooks as long as those viewpoints don't bring harm to those that express them or others. I'm also super sarcastic and snarky, and it's not meant in a mean way. That's just how I do. It doesn't always come off well, so that's my warning to you! (That rhymed!)
Hobbies:I love any and all history. My all-time favorite period of history is the U.S. Civil War era. I just love all the various factors that lead to the war, Lincoln's decisions;etc. It really was a fascinating time. That being said, I really love to read historical fiction and non-fiction. I probably spend more time exploring the past than planning for the future, but that's just how I roll.
Current:I've been really interested in the colonial era as it pertains to pirates. I LOVE PIRATES. I love pirates a LOT, so I've been trying to learn as much as I can about them. I'm particularly interested in the Golden Age of Piracy (1690's-1720's), as well as learning about the Sugar/Rum trade and how that affected piracy and the colonial era. Pretty awesome stuff.
I also just learned about "Steampunk", so I'm trying to read up on that and find more journals and people that know more about it. The concept is riveting. Steampunk Civil War? HOLY SHIT. The possibilities of an alternative reality regarding the Victorian age? Totally sweet.
Other Stuff: I love most anything geeky, be it LOLCats, Battlestar Galactica, Batman, graphic novels, gadgets (so I guess I'm nerdy, too?), Disney, pirates, Nintendo;etc. I like to knit, read (a LOT), draw (though I've been sadly slacking on that), and listening to music. I also play trumpet. I'm obsessed with tea and cheese. Seriously. I love love love cheese. As I write this, I'm about to have "high tea" with some folks XD. Excitement. Right, so I love tea parties as well. Rum is my liquor of choice, but I'm also fond of going out and trying random fruity drinks at restaurants/pubs that I've never had before. I like being silly and ridiculous especially if I have others to be silly or ridiculous with.
